Here's what they get wrong abt @AOC :
I've been teaching for 30 yrs. Most of that was university teaching. There is no more focused, prepared, poised, or hardworking student than a woman of color.
AOC graduated BU w honors as a double major in econ & international relations. 1

Now, you can speculate abt why WOC show up like that to their educations. I'm just telling you that, in the aggregate, they DO. There's always surprise when AOC shows up in news shows poised, prepared, & brilliant. That's why I RTed that last tweet. 2/
It doesn't surprise me at all. This is how WOC show up to their college classes (speaking in the aggregate, of course). They are IMPRESSIVE. And the surprise at how impressive they are enrages me, bc it's just white male supremacy. 3/
For example, the way white ppl talk abt Black excellence like it's something we have to foster. It was NOTHING to do w us. Black excellence just IS. Our problem is being willing to recognize it. We're over here worried abt our own virtue signaling 4/
Or worse, we;'re holding her down bc her hair is "unprofessional" or her conversational speech is "unprofessional' (never mind her perfect writing, right?). Black excellence is not abt white ppl in any way. We just need to get out of its way. 5/
Do you have any idea how many AOCs I've taught over the years? How many Latinas & Chicanas I've taught or worked with here in the Bay Area? AOC is special in many ways, but her ability to show up like a boss is not surprising. 6/
WOC are just as capable as any white man but have to work 6 times harder to get-- and stay-- where they are. Your shock at their excellence is racist. Do not presume incompetence. Presume excellence. 7/
Hire women of color. Hire young women of color. Hire older women of color. Hire disabled women of color. Hire LGBTQ women of color. Hire Muslim women of color. And do not express surprise when they excel, which they will.
Oh, and by "hire" I also mean "vote for."
/end rant

PS I have an entire rant abt "professional" English & how we weaponize it by pretending it's "better" than other dialects, so take "perfect writing" as a quote rather than an assertion that conforming to formal English is "perfect" or "better."
