Today was Vijayadashami as per Rashtriya Panchang. On this day in 1925 Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, with a handful of boys started the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur. That tiny plant has grown and blossomed today into the largest voluntary organization in the
world. The only objective of this great organization is to unify and awaken Hindu society as Hindus (हिन्दू समाज को हिन्दू के नाते जाग्रत और संगठित करना) and to make humans to achieve this objective (मनुष्य निर्माण). It is not involved in politics. But Swayamsevaks, charged with
its ideals and under the leadership of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee had formed a political party, the Bharatiya Jan Sangh which, through some changes is the Bharatiya Janata Party of today, ruling India. The little plant that Dr Hedgewar planted was watered and nursed to its present
size by Param Pujaniya Guruji Madhav Sadashivrao Golwalkar and subsequent Sarsanghchalaks.
Back in 1964 some students from erstwhile East Pakistan, driven out for the crime of having been Hindus, came and enrolled in our class in Bengal Engineering College. Hearing their plight
and the fact that there was no big protest against it,I was incensed, and eventually joined the RSS. I am still a humble Swayamsevak and overcome with admiration for the genius of Doctorji and Guruji. What a great organization they built!Pranam,Pranam.
