Many, if not most, of the ills of the world stem from our preference for talking about the complex, higher order question "how should society be organised?" rather than the simpler, lower order question "how should we behave towards each other?" 1/2
A question of the form "should the state pay to feed the children of the poor?" allows too many of us to get lost in debate.

The question "should I help feed a starving child?" really admits of no debate.

To make this even clearer:

If (as we must all agree) the answer to the question "should I help feed a starving child?" is yes, then there is no reason why the same answer should not apply to "should the state help to feed starving children?"
