Last night we played a 3-person game of Monopoly in our COVID bubble but using the actual, original, official rules. Biggest differences from "regular" game:
1) Every property MUST be either purchased or auctioned when someone lands on it
2) No big pile of money in the middle.
The results were fascinating. It was the first time I'd ever played with these rules but the biggest impact is that liquidity is highly constrained. Each player start the game with $1500 and players don't really get much more than that as the game progresses.
This makes every purchase decision highly consequential. It also incentivizes NOT buying property so it can be auctioned at hopefully lower prices.

Either way, by the end you are PRAYING not to roll a 5, 6, or 8 because that stay at Marvin Gardens will ruin you financially.
Also: the Chance and Community Chest cards actually are impactful. I drew a Community Chest card that forced me to pay a fee for every house I owned and it almost destroyed me financially and psychologically,

In short, it was the most exciting game of Monoply I’ve ever played.
