A question I get a lot is:

"Is it worth it to get a degree in film?"

And that's not a one size fits all answer, but I'll share some thoughts...
For me, going to NYU was formative, but as much for moving me from Missouri to New York City as it was for the curriculum. That was an EXPENSIVE education and I often consider the "worth" of it, but that's complicated as well. I'll explain.
NYU broadened out my social circle, and so did living in Manhattan for four years during. The SOCIAL education I received was at least as important as anything I learned in the classroom, but that's very unique to New York City.

Speaking generally...
...studying anything in an intensive environment is helpful to your craft, but it's really about what you learn and how you learn to apply it to your work than any "degree" in particular.

No one that has hired me has cared where I went to school. It's never come up.
My pithy response could be "Don't pay that tuition. Put that into making short films or a micro budget feature" which MIGHT be a path for some people, but we're not all ready to task that at the same point in our lives. Perhaps structure would work for you. There's value in that.
I don't think you need to go to some crazy expensive school to get a solid education in filmmaking, especially with all the resources on YouTube, our general familiarity with filmmaking due to smartphone usage, etc.

It's a different world than it was when I was in college.
So, I think it comes down to your personal understanding of how you thrive. If structure helps you learn, then consider a program. If you can learn on your own, then put energy there. I do think it's still wise to get some kind of degree, in something, for work prospects but --
-- that's another complex discussion about the utility of higher education, in general, and beyond the scope of the question.

So, film school? Don't spend too much. Know the degree won't make you a pro. Learn how to teach yourself, even if you're in a program.
