This list is probably a joke but it’s a great example of a real pet peeve, i.e. judgment about language, accents, etc.

I’m a prof. linguist – that’s not an argument, just making clear that I don’t soapbox about things I don’t understand (imagine Twitter if we all did that) ... https://twitter.com/mcclanejohn2/status/1320233838023299072
My argument is this: There is no inherent right or wrong when it comes to language. It’s a construct: e.g. you’re holding in your hand a “phone”; the sound and its written variant are completely arbitrary.

There’s an *established* right or wrong, but then the question is ...
who decides what is standard? High German, “Queen’s English”, standard French – these are all dialects, like any other; they just happen to be the dialect of those in power.

Should we learn an agreed standard? Yes, it’s necessary. But it’s also imp. to be aware of how ...
language functions as a tool of oppression and discrimination.

And, on the personal level, in casual conversation or on social etc. it’s imp. to listen to what people are saying and not how they are saying it. Unless you’re teaching a child or someone ...
who is learning your language and has expressed consent for your “corrections,” it’s rude and mean and, quite frankly, I probably don’t want to be your friend – I’m very willing to bet you’re not a hoot at parties.
