So, apparently there's a pair of my (clean) underwear in the Lost and Found at my kid's school. And they've been there for the last five days.

Which of course raises questions: How did they get there? How did i find out about it? Why are they still there?

(thread): 1/
Well, now that my kids are back in school, the washing machine is running non-stop. And the kids' coats are getting washed with the rest of the clothes.

If you're a parent, you might see where this is going... 2/
Last Wednesday, my 6-year-old got to school and took off her coat, and a pair of underwear fell out of the sleeve.

Horrified, 6-year-old tried to figure out what to do next. She thought about picking them up and stuffing them in her backpack, but before she could do that... 3/
The teacher noticed the underwear on the floor and (according to 6-year-old) asked who they belonged to. At that point, my 6-year-old was like 🤷‍♀️. And all the other kids were like 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️
4/
And I totally get why 6-year-old didn't claim the underwear. As she told me "Well, they weren't actually mine." But that meant the underwear went straight to the Lost and Found.

So why are they still there? 5/
At first, 6-year-old was too embarrassed to tell me that she'd sent my underwear to the Lost and Found. But I guess it was weighing on her conscience, because yesterday when my spouse asked her to get her coat, the whole story came tumbling out. 6/
He told me about the underwear, and I talked to 6-year-old, reassuring her that losing the underwear isn't a big deal.

But of course, this still leaves the question of what to do next. In a normal year, I'd go in, dig through the Lost and Found, and find them myself. But... 7/
Because of COVID-19, parents aren't allowed in school. Which means 6-year-old would have to dig through the Lost and Found herself. But even if that didn't seem horribly unfair after the embarrassment I've put her through, she's actually too short for the task. Why? 8/
Because the Lost and Found is a 3ft-high wood box, and my 6-year-old is barely 3'5". So she'd have to find a way to climb up into the box, find the underwear somewhere in the tangle of coats and sweatshirts, and climb back out.

So here we are, underwear still in the box... 8/
Of course, I could contact the teacher or the principal and ask them to look through the Lost and Found. But that seems inappropriate. And unnecessary. And just too ridiculous to ask. 10/
So in the end, my (clean) underwear are still in the Lost and Found. And there's a good chance that's where they'll stay until some kind soul finds them and throws them away at the end of the year. 11/11
