A well-wisher today (not from twitter or the political gold), asked me why I’m going all out supporting Arnab, at the cost of making several enemies. Standing with what’s right often gifts you more enemies than friends. However, it must be done.
On a much, much smaller scale, I know what it feels like to be trapped, with the entire might of the state machinery and the ecosystem gunning for you. Being a journalist and being on the “non-left” is not really easy. And I have a soft spot for those who have skin in the game
Here, a journalist and his entire editorial staff is being falsely implicated by a state govt, it’s police and the rest of the media. This is by far the most shocking and brazen use of political might to shut down a non-left voice that I have ever witnessed.
For whatever reason, not ONE channel or portal has stood with Arnab the way they should have. Heck, it almost appears that most channels are helping, if not collaborating with the Maha govt and it’s police to implicate Arnab falsely.
Even TV journalists, with the power to influence the narrative, who I respected in their individual capacity are shamelessly silent. This is not just a fight to support Arnab, but a fight for the non-left’s right to not toe the line set by the left.
What the Left does not realise is this sets a precedent. Just like they rejoice today, I will rejoice if they are ever treated the same way. They have clearly turned this into a war, and it is, infect, a war. I will rejoice.
Here is what the Left has told us - it is ok to use the state machinery to hound a journalist if you don’t like their brand of journalism. And it’s ok for other journalists to rejoice the witch-hunt. Guess what? Most of us don’t like your journalism, dear left. Imagine our glee
