The filthy stain of Trump will take a long time to remove. A man who attacks frontline Covid doctors for lying about the deaths to get more money is not just sick: He is devoid of human decency and lives in a world where acting out of moral or higher values makes you a sucker. 1

His lie about Covid doctors is horrific enough by itself, but it represents his demented worldview. This is a sociopath who only thinks about what he can get. He imagines doctors behaving this reprehensibly because that’s how he would behave. But it raises a deeper problem. 2

For four years, America has been held hostage by a man who rejects the ideals and values that have built this nation and have motivated leaders and citizens alike to pursue justice and equality and to seek a better world no matter who you are. 3

Day after day, we’ve been bombarded by Trump’s attacks on the basic decency of fellow citizens and fellow humans. Day after day, we’ve seen his rejection of democratic principles, rule of law, and the protections and ideals enshrined in our constitution. 4

In eight days, we can begin to bring to an end this destruction & depravity. But we have a long journey to overcome the millions who absorbed Trump’s poisonous world view, found pleasure & value in it—& who abandoned the fundamental values that must unite us in common purpose. 5
