A day in the life of a member of Ambulance staff, inspired by the office - A THREAD.
Sat in the mess room, socially distanced of course 👀 waiting for your shift to start...
The panic that sets in, when someone with more than 2 pips walks into the room.
When your regular crew mate FINALLY turns up, about 0.21 seconds before you’re due to start shift.
Booking on, saying hello to control, contemplating the day ahead....
Your students face as you tell them that they’re “in charge” for the day.
The STARK realisation on the way to the first job that you’ve forgotten your coffee in the kitchen back at station.
The face of your colleague when taking the history of your first patient and they’ve got more meds than the local pharmacy.
As you get the patient ready to be conveyed to ED, they exclaim that there’s a woman driving the “big heavy ambulance” 😹
The triage nurse pretending to be interested in your handover because they’ve got 836382203773 other things they need to be doing and the last thing they need is a inappropriate ED referral.
After you’ve handed the patient over - not had time to make the stretcher or relieve your bladder which is the size of a hamsters you’re walked to the screen to pin out.
When anyone makes any kind of comment that could be considered remotely sexual.
When you go to pick up meal and you check your bank account because that’s where ALL your money goes.
When you get sent to a job where you’re required to get “paramedic-cy” and use equipment.
When you get dispatched to a location on the other side of the city and it starts to dawn on you this may not be the on time finish you were hoping for.
When you get to the job on the other side of the city, and you’ve been there 40 minutes and still don’t have a SCOOBY DOO what the hell is going on.
The moment of contemplation when it hits you that years of working on an ambulance has changed you.
Clearing on the last job of the shift, the e-number fueled second wind comes and you’re making your way back to station.
As you hand over the keys to the other crew and leave for, the grab bag of skittles still flowing through your veins.
As you get home, starting to wind down - realising you have another 4 shifts in your block, and it’s gonna be all fun and games tomorrow.
AND JUST BECAUSE, I AM BEYONCÉ, ALWAYS.
