ALRIGHT EXCELLENT BOSS BATTLE THREAD TIME.
1) The giant ship that is R-Type& #39;s entire third level. The first time I realised a fully-powered charge shot into its exposed core PAYS OFF was when I 180& #39;d on not liking it much to loving it the most in the entire game.

2) Uncharacteristically for a 3D Sonic game (where bosses mainly suck hard), most of Sonic Colours& #39; boss fights are EXCELLENT. Well-telegraphed moves, and they all have a clever quick-kill baked into them utilising the & #39;Wisp& #39; mechanics.
3) DK K-Washi from Streets of Rage 4 was an EXCELLENT boss. Usually I& #39;d loathe having to reduce a shield before I can do any real damage, as it& #39;s universally a ballache. Not here, where clever usage of specials annd weapons can get the job done QUICKLY.
4) Okay by now it& #39;s clear that my favourite bosses are all ones that initially appear tricky but the player& #39;s smarts or skills can be utilised smartly to make short work of them.
Nothing encapsulates this more than Sonic 2 Metropolis Zone& #39;s boss. Terrible zone, great fight.

5) Larries& #39; Lament in Super Meat Boy is also excellent for exactly the same reasons.
Actually more so because Meat Boy himself has no actual attacks, and this is one of the few bosses in the game that isn& #39;t just a chase of some kind.

6) Okay no quick-kill tricks here, but I really enjoyed the vision behind Raphael the Raven from Yoshi& #39;s Island. I& #39;d not seen anything quite like this at the time, and it really stuck out to me as memorable.
7) Apocalypse from X-Men vs. Street Fighter (also Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter).
Actually an easy boss, but it& #39;s the sheer spectacle of the thing; the largest onscreen character seen in a fighter at that point. Sometimes spectacle EASILY trumps challenge. Easily.

8) The most-iconic example of spectacle taking precedence over difficulty is the final boss of Super Metroid. You& #39;re invincible for the second phase, you can& #39;t lose! Is this even a boss?
Yes. But it& #39;s also the first part of the ending, I argue. And it& #39;s glorious at that.
