I woke up remembering the post that stated, in no uncertain terms, that there was absolutely no reason the early Disney princesses (Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora) had to be white women

While one is free to reimagine a world where this wasn't a case, to pretend it isn't -- uh
The idea that cartoons somehow invented and perpetuated racism, and that racism could be undone if Walt Disney was a chill cool dude (spoilers: he was not), like

What social justice are you even arguing for when you dont understand *how* society is unjust?
Which I think pretty much sums up my annoyance with the general state of Representation™, Diversity™, and Inclusion™ discourse

We have always and continue to live in a violent fascist society, and yet we act making entertainment slightly nicer is going to be the silver bullet
I remember when I was still writing about comics and movies a few years back, and after a while, I got the impression that once or twice a year, we did this thing where The Hot New Diverse Superhero Book Was Here, and it was going to Change Everything

And uh

Like, how?
I just ended up writing fawning praise over some pretty okay books, pressured into the line of thinking that we had to thank companies for "representation" or lose it, only for those books to never be marketed and eventually canceled in a few months

The industry kept right on
And you can say "Well it isn't the job of companies to materially change the lives of oppressed people through commerce"

But that's exactly my point

Having nicer products to numb my brain to the fact the government hates me doesn't make my government hate me any less
And I really don't care if Elsa never gets a girlfriend if the only change I can bank on is a multinational entertainment monopoly who gets money from the Pentagon to make military recruitment commercials with action figure tie-in lines deciding I'm worth throwing a bone to
Anyway, I don't know. Support marginalized artists and indie creators, I guess? Although we shit all over them for not being Disney, in either scale or content, so I don't know what to tell you
