apparently there is a third possible connection to a penal island also connected to eroda. “gould’s book of fish” written by richard flanagan, and it’s connection to eroda.
; a thread!
; a thread!
first let’s start with the name of the author, richard flanagan. and now let’s go to the eroda website, attractions, flanagan fish market!
now onto the plot, what’s the book about? it basically tells the story of william (yea, louis’ second name) gould and his life at macquarie barbour penal station in van diemen’s land. one of the most notoriously harsh penal stations that belonged to the british empire.
the blurb on the back of the cover starts with the following. and indeed, the convict was sentenced to a life imprisoned in the island and was forced to paint a book of fish. in the book we can find the following drawings:
“gould’s book of fish is a novel about fish the way moby-dick is about whales, or ulysses is a about the events on a single day.. a wondrous, phantasmagorical meditation of art, history and nature.. a fantastic tale”.
basically telling us, dig deep, nothing’s what it seems
