So a few weeks ago the school called me to discuss my daughter’s progress, or rather in this regard her regress over the last 6 months. We had a candid and open chat and they indicated that she may have issues with fine motor skills & planning and we must get an assessment
They then said they think she must stay at school next year because she’ll benefit from the tiny class (about 8) and they can work closely with her. I asked for time & to discuss with her future school as well as get an opinion from an Occupational Therapist. We found a great one
She’s actually a pediatric OT and she met my baby & gave me feedback. While the developmental issues exist, she’s a highly smart child whose ability to grasp concepts and try will help her navigate big school (Grade R) and as a professional she encourages big school.
Yesterday was a meet and greet at big school where I had a chance to interact with the principal who I love and respect a great deal. I shared the events as well as suggestions, but she also says bring her here, being in a bigger class with greater facilities will help.

Just need a nudge in the right direction. I’m no expert but I know that something as simple as incorrect pen grip can make a child’s learning experience SO difficult, yet the solution is as simple as some excercise that are done in the OT facility. 2020 has been rough, and the
Impact will be felt for years after this. Work with the children, work with their teachers, especially in the early years and into primary school. Your child will benefit a great deal long after this period has passed.
