Vinod Kambli lost his mother before the Ranji Trophy SF v TN in Mumbai. Kambli played the SF & says that was one of the toughest games he has ever played
Eknath Solkar was part of the 1969 Ranji Trophy final when his father was on his deathbed. His father died in the middle of the game. Eknath Solkar was in tears & perfomed his father’s last rites. He then came back & guided Mumbai to a vital first-innings lead.
Tushar Deshpande lost his mother just before the start of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2019. He didn’t return home & played for Mumbai. He bowled decisive spells & was the joint second highest wicket-taker in the tournament (19 wickets)
Asif Ali lost his two-year-old daughter Noor Fatima due to cancer just before the World Cup in 2019. Asif was playing the ODI series in England that time.
In 1983, Gordon Greenidge was batting on 154 in the Antigua Test when he received the news of his ailing daughter. Greenidge rushes to Barbados to be by his daughter’s side. She died 2 days later. Greenidge is the only batsman to be “retired not out” in international cricket
In 2019, 22-year-old Alzarri Joseph lost his mother in the middle of the Test match v England. The English team applauded him on the crease when Joseph came to bat. Joseph picked crucial wickets of Root & Denly & WI won the Test
Naseem Shah at 16 lost his mother when he was in Australia. Naseem didn’t return home. Ngidi lost his father during IPL 2018. He went home & then came back to play for CSK
