Now for some Tamil non veg food ARE YOU READY
First and foremost, the best thing ever, prawn and quail egg sambal. Prawn sambal itself is beautiful but together, amazing. Sambal is also great with chicken, fish, squid, anything.
Chicken goddamn 65. It originated in a hotel in Chennai. Why is it 65? That’s a mystery we’ll never solve but why think about that when you can just eat the beauty
Karuvadu Curry. Can be both anchovies and thundu (pieces of karuvadu), but when it’s made right, it hits.
FISH CURRY. There are many versions of it, from different parts of India but I’ve only had the one Amma and aatha make and day old fish curry and bread 10/10
Nandu perattal. I’m a sucker for seafood and this is amazing. Crab is best when made as perattal or curry.
JAFFNA CURRY. So many spices and can be made with goat or seafood or anything else. I’ve only had it once in London with goat and 10/10 amazing.
MUTTON ROLLS. I really wanna try these. They look so beautiful and it’s a very common Eelam dish.
FISH CUTLET. I love fish cutlet. It goes with every damn thing.
So koozh is usually made for prayers in india or as vegetarian food but Jaffna koozh has seafood in it and it looks DIVINE. One more to add to the must try list.
Sura Varai/ Sura puttu - Varai is more popular in Eelam and Puttu is more popular in Tamilnadu. It’s made with shark meat and spices
Chettinadu curries are so good!!
Kotthu roti is another Eelam food. IT IS AMAZING. Had it at Hoppers in London and oof I love it.
Naatu Kozhi Kozhambu. Naatu Kozhi means Country chicken and it’s so much tastier and healthier than other chicken.
NANDU RASAM. Oof okay so masala is the best way to make nandu but nandu rasam is a close second. NANDU. RASAM.
SATTI SORRU. I’ve only seen it in Singapore (not sure where else you have it) and we call it peratune sorru in my house. Usually after curry is made and there’s a little left in the pot and it’s hard to get out, my mum adds sorru and just stirs it a little to get this.
Tamil style fried fish. MASALA, MANJAL, Chilli powder, cumin, pepper. Just marinate and FRYYYYY.
