Almost every physician I know (including ER, ICU & anesthesia) has taken a pay CUT as a result of COVID due to a decrease in volume and elective surgeries. Death certificates are legal documents that detail all factors contributing to death. Traumatic deaths would omit COVID. 1/X https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1320180250920259584
With rare exceptions such as suicide or ingestions, COVID would contribute to death in some way due to effects on cardiac and lung function, immune system, nervous system and hypercoagulability. Some long-lasting physiologic changes that could contribute to death years later. 2/X
Hospitals did get a stipend from the govt for caring for COVID pts, but it didn’t make up for lost revenue. And to imply that physicians would alter legal documentation en masse to make an extra buck is reprehensible. It also did not happen. Thousands died. Show some respect. /X
