Time has not been kind to games that don't save progress, but coming back to the same game again and again to get just a bit further than last time was my childhood. I'd argue I remember it fondly because of the repetition. It's the same feeling as repeating a boss fight until you win, just for an entire game. We played one game for years on and off like this in the 90s, often handing the controller back and forth.
I don't know why I'm writing this thread, I have no point to make. I'm getting old enough to just ramble on about things that make me nostalgic.
