My thought process when picking my first product to sell on Shopify

A thread
1. I didn't want to conform to ONE very specific niche

Not everyone goes camping.

Not everyone plays guitar.

If I constrained myself to something like like camping gear, music gear, things for cars, I would cripple myself as I didn't know where to advertise this.
I know that not everyone camps, drives, or plays music,

BUT, I do know that both men and women require personal hygiene to stay healthy.

Instead of going for a product aimed towards men or women, I decided to go with both so I had a higher chance of selling.
2. I went with something easy to package and cheap

I wanted to offer free shipping, as people would be more inclined to buy if the shipping was free rather than paid.

I wanted something cheap, so having something small and cheap to ship would cut down mine and customers cost.
I also wanted to sell a product most people could afford to buy.

I did this because I felt like it would be harder for someone as previously unexperienced as me to push higher ticket items.
3. Wanted a product that would pique their curiosity

Perfect example, a bidet. Many people have one, many don't.

When people will see an add for a bidet, some may think "Hmm, well (insert name) has one and preaches about how good it is...might as well try!"...
I wanted a product that they would be curious to try.

And once they tried, they would never go back to their old ways BEFORE they got that product.

I also remembered some good rated reviews on Amazon from people having similar experiences with other products.
4. I already had data about this product.

I already knew people who have tried selling it in the past as testing and it has done really well.
That concludes this thread.

This is basically a sum of what I was thinking when I chose my product (not sure if I should share it or not yet).

Please give me feedback on any holes in my thinking or if you agree/disagree.

Thank you
