Why the idea of "White Latinx" doesn't exist
Whenever I hear people saying that latinx people can be white, I'll usually see 2 examples used to tell us that we're not poc
1. White Passing

There are a lot of white passing individuals that are BIPOC. Just because you have white passing priviledge doesn't mean that you're white. We still face a lot of discrimination based on our race/ethnicity from white people
I'm not white passing, but I don't like how this is used as a way to associate us with whiteness because white people absolutely do not like us
2. Nationality

Some people will tell us that it's a nationality, and white people are using that as a way to call themselves poc. When I say latinx, I mean it as an ethnicity not a nationality. If your ethnicity is latinx, you're not white
People perpetuating the idea that latinx people can be white is bad. There are many white passing folks that actually believe that they're white as in caucasian, and push for assimilation.
On top of this I've seen people call others "white latinx" only to find out that they're indigenous đŸ€Ą
Gatekeeping is also bad because we should be fighting for liberation, and against things like white supremacy not our validity as poc
I've also seen many white people call us poc which should be a huge indicator that they don't actually see us as white. We don't benefit from white priviledge, and white supremacist rhetoric like racism, gender norms, etc. hurts us
Some people may indicate that the US gov. make us latinx people fill out white as our race which is "proof" that latinx people can be white, but they also don't mention that people from the Middle East also have to fill out white as well
Also just because some latinx people aren't black, asian, indigenous, etc. doesn't mean that we're automatically white. Idk if you notice, but that kind of thinking sets up the idea that being white is the default which is incredibly harmful
I don't trust anyone that says that latinx people can be white because from my experiences it's usually perpetuated by white people trying to "prove" that reverse racism exists, or people with some level of "internalized" white supremacist rhetoric
