I don't necessarily disagree with delaying a couple of days. The frustration comes from telling people (twice) you'll likely be able to open up early and then not. Why do that? From a basic comms perspective it's so self-defeating. Like repeatedly punching yourself in the face.
It makes no sense to give a strung out, exhausted community false hope and then pull the rug from under them at the last minute. If you're not certain, don't say anything until you have certainty you're opening up. It's the on/off nature of this that's making people despair.
From a public messaging perspective it's always better to under-promise and then over-deliver rather than the other way around. This is just basic PR. It feels like that's never been more important. What you say publicly has massive implications for the community's mental health.
