There are times one wonders if harboring hope for this country is worthwhile. Because as bad as corruption is it seldom defines a country. What really defines a country is the civilian populace. When this protest started i resisted the temptation to cast a spotlight
on the protest and focused on defence related issues. I was called out and castigated for refusing to tweet about the protest. I had thousands of hate messages and hack attempts. I finally yield to the publics demand and dedicated an entire week spotlighting the protest.
Now i am receiving hate messages and being castigated and asked to focus on the military and street clear of social justice issues because i refuse to pander to either camp. And when you say the hard truth you will get messages like ''May you die in an accident today''
''Trailer will jam the handler of this page amen in Jesus name. Bastard idiot don collect 24, make SARS kill your pikin in Jesus name''. They use the name of Jesus to say such despicable things without fear.
You see, in the bible when God delayed Israels entry into the promised land and the entire nation was made to wander in the desert for 40 years, until almost the entire generation of men had died you begin to understand that the civilian populace determines the fate of a nation.
The current crop of citizens we have will give the Israelites a run for their money. Tribalistic, intolerant to opposing views, jealousy, unnecessary envy and ready to employ violence on people who dont tow their insane line. What society like this develops? We envy the unity
...and pragmatism of countries like Ghana and Kenya and the stability and subsequent increase in Human Development it has brought to them, here we have refused to evolve. Everybody hates everybody.
The billionaire class are all in Abuja. The priviledged children of the elite who ''rightfully'' championed this protest, whose fame and popularity propelled Nigerians to march out in droves are all in their gated communities, their future already secured...
....after fleeing at the first sign of trouble to their mansions, the poor masses, beaten up by a life are destroying out destroying the lives and properties of the poor, burning down small business of hard working Nigerians, forcing the shutdown
of commercial enterprises and small business, killing people in the presence of their own family,, bringing untold hardship, not to the politicians in Aso Rock, not to their priviledged children in their Victoria Island Mansions or London, but to poor Nigerians themselves.
..and when someone says wait a min, this is senseless and calls for an end to the riots they are threatened with death. They spew more hatred towards those calling for calm & order than to the government they are supposed to be protesting against. They have brought untold tears
and destroyed the livelihood of hardworking Nigerians and rather than train their guns at Abuja they are oppressing people. I dont know how they got hold of my number now they are sending death threats direct to my mobile phone. The messages are too vile to disclose.
How can a country populated by such wicked, myopic and evil people ever make progress? Doing exactly what they are protesting about and because they dont want their conscience to prick them they react violently to calls for sober reflection to what they have done to people.
These dudes are just wasting their time. i am not scared of anyone. I will not be bullied or threatened or told what to tweet and what not on my own private twitter handle. The wickedness and intolerance of a large segment of the population rivals that of the corrupt government
...and in some cases exceed them. If they can exercise their right to protest and riots i will definitely not be denied my right to speak out.
