This entire video by @BretWeinstein and @HeatherEHeying, from 0:0:0 to 1:40:47 was an argument for unity between liberals and conservatives but with conservatives always being on behind the wheel.

And it kind of angers me.
I'm guilty of this too, so I am not going after @BretWeinstein as much as I am going after who I used to be--which isn't much different: "but to see people come from religious traditions of different kinds and begin to sound the alarm..."

That alarm has been ringing for decades.
I ignored that alarm and vividly recall making fun of conservatives and religious people for their alarms that the slippery slope is real and it's nothing more than the law of causality.

IOW, the conservatives/religious were more than right: they were prophetic.
Watch the entire DarkHorse podcast (#50) and then listen to @BretWeinstein's discussion with @DouglasKMurray.

There's never been a better combo to cut through the bullshit of conservatism vs liberalism. It's always been a fallacy.
Conservatism is liberalism with the breaks on, but not in the sense that people on the right tend to think: conservatism is supposed to conserve liberty and freedom through the use of moral social standards (generally religious) to allow for minarchism.

@BretWeinstein sort of gets it (religion is a necessary ingredient) and @DouglasKMurray lives it with deeper deference to religious faith. Both piggy back on its foundation to appreciate liberty.

Our society bereft of religious moral faith is unscrupulously optimistic.

Scruton:
An evolutionary biologist can argue that for whatever reason the Judeo-Christian belief structure allows for a liberal society to grow out of it, but I argue it cannot survive without it.

RETVRN might not be the best idea, but it might be our only one. https://twitter.com/Outsideness/status/1319929065302757376
The West progressed not in spite of our religious faith, but because it was deeply ingrained in all aspects of society. The atheists in the Enlightenment piggy backed off a society built upon Judeo-Christian values. They were raised by and instilled with those values.
The threat the West faces is much bigger than we can fathom. "[Woke] has no constraints against sacrificing the individual for the interests of the collective... and absolutely no compunction about crushing people they think of as [...] barbarians." https://pjmedia.com/spengler/2020/06/22/hey-black-lives-matter-do-you-really-want-china-to-run-the-world-n559114
And although this wasn't my intention with this thread, I cannot help but answer @HeatherEHeying's question about what she should vote for.

@ConceptualJames explained it well: the options aren't Biden or Trump--it's woke vs a fighting chance against this existential threat.
So yeah, I'm angry. I'm angry at myself for having argued for this madness before. I'm angry enough at the idea that my white grandchildren will be taught that they must become second class citizens--angry enough to vote for a barking Chinese crested dog of a man.
