cool german words/expressions that i like and dont think they exist in most languages: an ongoing thread

one of my favourites: Fernweh
~the opposite of home sickness, the longing to be somewhere else, to travel and see the world

Ohrwurm
~ lit. translates to ear worm: when you have a song stuck in your head, you have an Ohrwurm

tja
~ basically this emoji as a word: ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

hä
~basically ???? as a word. its an expression of confusion

Ich hab dich lieb.
~I'd translate it to 'youre dear to me' but it actually means 'I love you ' in a friend way!

Du fehlst mir.
~it means 'i miss you' but the literal translation would be 'you are missing from me'

Rache is Blutwurst.
~ lit. translates to 'revenge is blood sausage' and tbh for the longest time i had no clue what it meant until i found out that that is exactly what its supposed to mean: revenge is meaningless!

knuffig
~i absolutely love this word and use it all the time. it means cute but like something is so cute, you wanna squish it!

the suffix -chen
~you can add it to any noun to express how cute and/or how small it is!

Pups/Pupsi
~lit. means fart (but like in a cute way) and its a word of endearment! You'd call your baby or your pet Pupsi!

mimimimimimimi
~the sound we make when someone is being a pussy.
someone is like whining about smth and you just go mimimimimi to tease them (its friendly and not rude or smth)

mollig
~has two meanings:
chubby but in a super cute way!
or cozy warm!

doch
~when you object to someone's objection
e.g. you: the earth is round
someone: no, it isn't
you: doch, it is
