A Venda woman with no hair just won Miss SA (she’s the first Venda winner), from a tribe that experiences the most tribalism in SA & is deemed to be ugly. The women are often mistreated & made fun of. Beauty is redefined. This will have ripple effects! This is big #MissSA2020
Did a thread a while back on how Venda and Tsonga people experience the worst of tribalism in SA: https://twitter.com/chatwithchauke/status/1272413369866293249
Why do black people understand racism so much and all it’s nuances and expressions, cry foul when white people tell them to stop playing victim and move on YET when it comes to other forms of oppression such as tribalism, homophobia, ableism and xenophobia etc y’all don’t get it?
The comments, attacks and responses from some of you are laughable, ironic if not downright hypocritical. You are being defensive and refuse to accept the fact that you are also an oppressor and rank higher in the “ethnic” or “tribe” hierarchy. Vendas are treated badly period ✊🏿
Nywe nywe it’s not that deep, trust me it is deeper. Why do y’all celebrate when black people or women transform or enter exclusionary spaces? You do it because you are aware that representation of marginalized groups matters & sends a message that it’s possible. Muting this ✨
