Child Poverty thread...

In 1999, Blair stated: Our historic aim will be for ours to be the first generation to end child poverty... By 2010, the government had lifted 800,000 children out of poverty.
Heres how the Tories (with a little help from the Lib Dems)
shifted away from child poverty as a central priority.

Child Benefit seen a decrease of 13.6% of its value over the lifespan of the Coalition government (A deduction of £238 per year for a family).
Child Tax Credit, seen a decrease of 8.1% (a reduction of £374 for a family with two children).

Working Tax Credits also saw a three-year freeze, a decrease in the maximum payment in the childcare element
and the increase in weekly working hours required for a couple with children to qualify for working tax credit from 16 to 24

The first year of the Coalition (2010) levels of child poverty fell by 300,000. However,
policies that were in place prior to 2010 have been stated as the source of this decrease

From 2012 to 2015 child poverty increased by 400,000.
Then Cameron got his hands on the Child Poverty Act.

The amendments included: the removal of child poverty measures and targets, scrapping local and national governments from obtaining child poverty figures
With Cameron’s resignation in June 2016, Theresa May became Prime Minister. Her minority government abolished the family element of tax credits for new claimants. This policy change will have impacted 970,000 families.
The two-child tax credit and housing limit (introduced by David Cameron) was rolled out in April 2017 with further implication for 640,000 families.

2016/17 saw 30% of children in poverty (4.1million), the highest levels since New Labour came to power.
2020..... The Tories vote down free school meals.

AND THE POINT IS.....

THE CONSERVATIVES DO NOTHING FOR CHILDREN
