Here& #39;s another knee-slapper. How can anyone take this stuff seriously?
I suppose it& #39;s easy to be a speed reader if you don& #39;t worry about what the words actually say.
Looks like "Decode the word to determine what it actually says" doesn& #39;t make the cut.
Here& #39;s a sure-fire strategy to help a struggling six-year old...
Look at the first and last letters of that unknown word. Surely there won& #39;t be more than a few possibilities?
BEAT, BOAT, BEST, BRAT, BUTT, BENT, BOLT, BUNT, BAIT, BLOT, BOOT, BUST, BELT, BOOST, BEAST, BLAST, BUILT, BLUNT, BURST, BOAST....
BEAT, BOAT, BEST, BRAT, BUTT, BENT, BOLT, BUNT, BAIT, BLOT, BOOT, BUST, BELT, BOOST, BEAST, BLAST, BUILT, BLUNT, BURST, BOAST....
The fact that @JSerravallo& #39;s book is a best seller, and that she& #39;s considered a hero among many teachers, is stark testimony to the sorry state of contemporary reading instruction. /end
