QUICK #YourSlipIsShowing REMINDER: One of the account types that we've seen an exponential increase in since 2017 is what @imaginaryerika (I think) dubbed "wedge accounts." Those are accounts that show up in comment threads, inflaming tensions around tense issues.

QUICK CORRECTION: It was @ErynnBrook who dubbed them "wedge accounts"! Please note!

Anyway. I pulled these in like 90 seconds from a tweet thread on a news report about how a Boogaloo Boi (from a popular film about BREAKDANCING; White supremacists can't even HATE right) shot up a Minneapolis police station to frame #BLM. Because, of course. #YourSlipIsShowing

Here's the account profiles. Like. Really. LOL. #YourSlipIsShowing

There's thousands of these accounts, all over Twitter. They're not bots - most accounts I tag with #YourSlipIsShowing are not strictly automated. I don't typically bother because those ones are really obvious to me. No, these farmed accounts are at least partially manned.

What concerns me is I see people in my side engaging accounts like the ones I posted shots of - which are REALLY obvious - in debates!

Stop that. Wedge accounts LITERALLY only exist to make the online political landscape look bleaker and grosser than it is. #YourSlipIsShowing

Like that's been a stated aim of various misinformation campaigns. To make it look like shit is worse than it is. To make us folks on my end of the sociopolitical spectrum feel despair and to make us ALL give up hope. As a political strategy. #YourSlipIsShowing

Oh, these asshats often say their join date is new cuz Twitter banned their "old" account.

IF that's the case, you should be able to search tweets under their "old" account name. Which - if they aren't brand new accounts - is easily included in their bio. #YourSlipIsShowing
