So, one thing I wanna talk about in my review is something I feel will get misconstrued, but we also talk about it in the weeb club (I think)

I don’t think #NijiAnime will ever be as good as Sunshine, but that’s mainly due to the fact that Sunshine as a series...
...is much more focused on the emotional impact with every episode. Sunshine goes for the throat and tries to make you cry. It also should be noted that the core driving focus of the story is literally the self hate of the main character.
By comparison, NijiGaku, while definitely having emotional moments, is moreso aiming for a lot more fun episodes. Episodes 2 and now 4 are entirely focused on having fun moments with the characters to endear you to them, which I think it’s doing extremely well...
...but what makes me consider a story to be a level above is how it manages to emotionally impact me. Maybe I’m just calling it too early and the show pulls a Yakusoku, but in terms of emotional highs, nothing tops Sunshine for me.
It also just has to do with how personal the conflict is in Sunshine to me. The very idea that the show focuses so much on the self hate aspect and how every character feels like a failure hits me way too hard for it not to affect me
But don’t take this thread as me saying Niji is bad. I’m fully aware that the show isn’t over yet, this is just this feeling me and @Craftsdwarf sort of discussed that I’ve been thinking about
