I’ve been thinking about this picture everyday for the last five days. I can’t shake it. Look, if you are onboard with Trump because of his policies, I get it. I have a different perspective and think his policies are destructive, but I get it. https://twitter.com/haaymanharold/status/1317927153107873792
What I can’t wrap my mind around is the American Evangelical church’s obsession with Trump. This morning I thought about the story of when Jesus goes into the wilderness and is tempted by Satan. Jesus is offered all the kingdoms and power of the world if he worships satan
Jesus did what the church hasn’t done. He turned down the offer of the splendor and the world and of earthly power
The church was brought up to the mountain top and was told, “all of this can be yours if you vote for me. You can have the judges you want. You can have the policies you want. You can have the prosperity you want, if you just vote for me.” The church ate it up.
Trump is not the devil. Trump is not the cause of the state we are in. He is the effect. He is the manifestation of the path the American Evangelical church has been on for the last 30 years. The quest for power has been fulfilled in Donald Trump
This is not the way of Jesus. The way of Jesus is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control.
I don’t really know how to end this thread because I’ve been thinking about this for four years and I still don’t get how the church how so completely missed the point.
