Are you a public school advocate?

What would you do if you had a preK child and learned that, for the past 8 years, fewer than 1 of 3 students in your neighborhood school were able to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade? What if it were only 1 of 5?

What would you do?
Here are the 3rd grade reading scores from 2012-2019 for 7 schools in my city’s district. First, anticipating some who may say the test is too hard, the first results are from the best-performing school in our district. These 3rd graders do just fine.
Now, think about the question of “what would you do” if your child were expected to attend any of the following schools?
Your child will start kindergarten next year. Your neighborhood school.

What would you do?

Once you've decided what you would do for your own child, consider this: if you live in a city with similar schools, is this situation acceptable? What's your responsibility?
