God, do you guys remember when Game of Thrones was good?

I just

I just think about that sometimes
Not to say it didn't have ISSUES (every person who's told me "I had to give up on GOT because...", I'm generally like, yeah, that sucked a lot), but it was, y'know. Coherent. Dramatic. Had some of the best character work in allll the television.

And then blek.
I don't think it's fair to say "they ran out of books; GRRM had all the good ideas and D&D had diddly squat"

These dudes added some of the best moments in the show. This scene from s1? All them, and it snaps my wee little heart & GETS these characters.
Sorry, wrong link. I meant THIS one.

I love this scene. It's so great. There's so much pain, regret, stubbornness. DEPTH. It's the show's setup boiled down to one conversation.
But I think (sorry this turned into a thread no one asked for??? lol???) that to wrap up a story in a satisfying way, you need to understand the point of the story. The THEME.

These guys mocked themes/genre for 8 years, then tried to slap one on at the end.

It, uh, didn't work
That's why Tyrion's speech at the end felt so flat despite Peter Dinklage being an amazing actor. He gives a whole sermon on the importance of storytelling/writers...

...but like, who cares? That's not what the show was about. It's an afterthought.

Hnnngh.
Ok end of thread weee
