hello from pomelo paints co.

here’s a little design thread on how i rebranded and conceptualized my art account/shop! whether or not you’re interested in doing the same thing i hope you find this thread interesting.

why i rebranded:

i started out around 2 years ago on IG as cait.png as a temporary username and made an AC account called helloACNH here last may! (shoutout to everyone who’s been here since then )

opened comms for the first time around june-july and while i loved my usernames, i really wanted uniformity with both my accounts and i felt like i wasn’t just an ac account! (plus the ac burnout was super bad that time lmao)

naming process:

as a type 1 personality i rlly love lists!!! so here’s a wonky 3am journal entry of me writing down all the words i considered for the rebrand!

things i considered:

- how commonly used the words are
- how it related to my art
- how easy it is to say (tbh why i didn’t keep the words lavender/lilac!!)

brand keywords: bright, dreamy, nostalgic, c u t e

- also really wanted a fruit/animal- related user and settled with pomelo bc 1) isn’t common 2) SEA fruit! haha

i’m shy but here’s a bunch of name rejects: bunnyslippers, lilactiger, lavenderbunny, hellopomelo (was taken i think!), and something else panda-related!

final name:

pomelo paints co.

co. is there bc pomelopaints was a taken username by an abandoned asmr account but also “co.”worked p well with a merch shop!!

just felt right after a while.

logo conceptualization:

again, wanted fruit+animal related branding so here are some mockups i tried. color scheme just stemmed from the list of words i wanted + the coral color of pomelos! ++ generally wanted purple branding just bc i don’t see it that often!

i don’t have a graphic design background but as a frustrated interior design student i really wanted to make sure my concept was on point!! so here’s a logo breakdown.

wanted something that wasn’t too intimidating but still professional-ish/ works for merch!

now what ¿

after finishing up on branding and feeling confident enough with my design, worked on some reveal pubs and card backings, etc. for my merch!! started out on just selling locally but so happy to have branched out to etsy! (ty for 30 sales )

artist inspo! / shop things

i looked at these artists for inspo on how they carried out their shops! basically really liked how established + consistent their identities are!

ur all super amazing!!

also just try to find inspo (and not copy!!) everywhere to help you figure out how you wanna represent yourself if you’re not using your name for the brand!

i can make a separate thread on starting shops if anyone is interested but i think that’s it for now!!
