Those of us middle class and up folks who haven’t been hit economically by COVID-19 absolutely have a responsibility to support those who have been AND to work to undo a system that failed to have a safety net in an economic crisis.

In other words, keep buying from local small businesses as you are able. Only buy from big box when there isn’t another option.

Donate to local food crisis groups and mutual aid organizations. In our household, a weekly food contribution is a line item in our grocery budget. It’s not a systemic solution but it’s help while we also push for systemic changes.

We cannot afford to be selfish. We can’t.

Yes this may end with some of us paying more taxes. You will live.
