@elnathan_john Congrats on the Berlin event. Well done. Here follows some thoughts on your literary work. Hope you won't mind. The main thing: a sequel to 'Born on a Tuesday' is sorely needed. It's implied in the ending. Especially the female character
BOAT ends 'inconclusively' which current events prove was absolutely right. There is no solution to be found in retiring to one's 'protected' private life. There is NO 'protection' even for the relatively privileged #EndSARS
The 'inconclusive' end of BOAT is one of it's greatest strengths (it has many). This means 'more to come' like a (good) Nollywood movie. Contrast this with the end of 'Americanah' which is it's weakest part. There the two lead characters retire to their private lives. Mistake
Chimamanda is a great writer. She is certain to win a Nobel and deservedly so. But she is also a very Southern writer. A strength/weakness. Little grasp of the North. Friendly but little grasp
You, OTOH, are a classic misfit in the good sense: a Southern Northerner or Northern Southerner. In other words, the New Nigerian
One of the hardest things for Nigeria is the divergence in its history. Since the 16thC the South oriented to the Atlantic. But the North oriented to Sahara & Eastwards to Bornu/Chad. Lugard tried to solder this together after 1914
But not even the British soldering iron could join these metals. It has been left to the hardy Nigerian youth to take up this HUGE challenge which they are doing with great courage
