The larger conflict isn't between people who prefer one candidate or another, one set of policies or another.

It's between people who understand the implications of how a specific voting system produces specific outcomes, and people like this.
It's between people who understand that they live in a society shaped by history that constrains useful choices, including choices that will change those constraints, and those who do not.
In essence, you only vote for exactly who you want, without regards to strategy, if either A) you don't know any better or B) you don't think you'll be negatively affected by the outcome of your vote or C) you don't care even about that.
You can run around in circles trying to make it about a true expression of self, but you can never avoid that you always end up at one of those three.

Petulant children want exactly what they want, accept no substitutions.
