The club from Pamplona celebrates the anniversary of its foundation by hosting Athletic Club this evening.

The club began life in Spain’s lower leagues after being founded on 24th October 1920.
They became Pamplona’s leading club and showed ambition with the project, though they didn’t reach the top 2 divisions.

In 1932, Osasuna were promoted to Segunda División for the first time

In 1935, they won promotion to Primera División

It was a meteoric rise, reaching the semi-finals of the Copa de España.
Unfortunately, top flight status lasted just 1 season.

Following the civil war, Osasuna pushed for promotion from Segunda but ended up relegated in 1944 and spent 5 years in Tercera.
Striker Julián Vergara notched 185 goals in 184 games, remaining the club’s record goalscorer to this day

Another 5 years after promotion to Segunda, they were back in Primera

While they went down at the first attempt, they returned in 1956 and, for the 1st time, stayed up for 4 seasons!
They finished as high as 5th in 57/58, ahead of Athletic Club.

The rollercoaster continued in the 1960s, dropping into Segunda, coming back up, going down again, only to end up in Tercera in 1968 and then win the league.
In 1967, they also moved into El Sadar

Possibly the club’s darkest decade, they became a yo-yo club between Tercera and Segunda

They won their Tercera group three times, but struggled to establish themselves in Segunda until the end of the decade.

The first golden era. Promotion in 1980 sparked a whole decade in Primera

A 6th placed finish in 1985 meant that Osasuna played in Europe for the first time the next season, knocking out Rangers in the process

The club was on the up and recorded a new highest finish, 4th, in 1991

In Europe, eventual champions Ajax knocked them out in the 3rd round.
Legendary coach Pedro Mari Zabalza was sacked in 1994 as the club hurtled towards an inevitable relegation.

Promotion in 2000 led to Osasuna’s longest uninterrupted spell in Primera, 14 years.
Runners-up in the 04/05 Copa del Rey, Betis needed extra time to win.
They finished 4th in 2006 to secure a UCL spot, going on to lose a UEFA Cup semi-final vs Sevilla.

After fighting for Europe at the turn of the decade, the club yoyoed between Primera and Segunda.
In his first season, in 18/19, Jacoba Arrasate led Osasuna to their first league title in 58 years to return to the top flight.

An unusual start to the decade, as for everyone, but Osasuna look to have established themselves in Primera.
Remodelling work on El Sadar is also advancing, expanding capacity to over 23,000
