𝗧𝗛π—₯π—˜π—”π——. Some of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples in the world (yes, even better than those in Greece itself!) are in southern Italy. Here are some.

1. Temple of Concordia, Agrigento
2. The Temple of Hera, Selinunte.

It was reconstructed in 1959 by an Italian archaeologist using original materials.
3. Temple of Segesta.

This amazingly preserved Doric temple was abandoned before it was ever completed.
4. Temple of Apollo, Syracuse.

The oldest Doric temple in Sicily, which over the years had been transformed into a Byzantine church, an Islamic mosque, a Norman church and, finally, a Spanish barracks.
5. Temple of Heracles, Agrigento.

Built in the 6th century BCE, the temple originally had 6 columns on each facade and 15 along the sides.
6. Temple of Athena, Paestum.

In the 6th and 7th centuries A.D., the temple was transformed into a church, probably devoted to the worship of the Virgin Mary.
7. Temple of Neptune, Paestum.

The plan of the Temple is almost identical to the plan of the Great Temple of Zeus at Olympia.
8.Temple of Hera, Paestum.

Built around 600 BC by Greek colonists, is the oldest surviving temple in Paestum.
9. Awsome drone footage of the three greek temples in Paestum.

10. Temple of Hera Lacinia, Agrigento.

Like many of the previous temples, it would have closed during the persecution of pagans in the late Roman Empire.
11. Temple of Athena, Syracuse.

The Cathedral of Syracuse was literally built on and around the temple. Most of the columns were left standing and many are visible on the exterior walls.
12. Temple C, Selinus.

Possibly dedicated to Apollo, this temple was probably used as an archive (hundreds of seals have been recovered from it).
13. Temple of Olympian Zeus, Agrigento.

The largest Doric temple ever constructed, it was built to celebrate Agrigento's victory over the Carthaginians.
