good morning? don't mind me, just having a lot of trouble getting the head sorted
I did read the opening portion of the Kalevala before fallng asleep and I thought it was rather beautiful in the telling of how the world formed, I'll certainly need to read it again

was rather drowsy during the first reading (thanks progesterone!) but so of course when I woke up this morning I was thinking about it and the weirdness of the world coming into being, however it actually happened
also had itchings of thoughts to create mythology of my own

and of course that mythology would have a lot of gender bending because well this world needs more stories that celebrate the ideas of much more expansive gender frameworks that would allow people to find something bender than the currently dominant binary view of gender
One thing I definitely picked up from the intro was the incredible work that Elias Lönnrot did in collecting the folk songs from the performers in the area eastern Finland and Karelia. If he had not done that, there would be no Kavelava in the form we have today.
He did that without the help of sound recording equipment. It's also important to understand that he put his own creativity into it as he stitched things together and put some of his own interpretation and impulses into the story, but that's how mythology works,
endless retelling by the storytellers who can't help putting some of their own sense of self and lives into the stories.
An interesting aspect to the Kalevala and its first songs about the formation of the world is that the narrator speaks of their own mind. A marked contrast to the Bible where the narrator does not speak of their intentions.
So it feels like the Kalevala is showing how we

personally shape the mythologies that try to explain the world and our humanity, of the necessity of that lens, that lens is as much a part of the world...
