Ireland doesn't have a large far right bc Sinn Féin shows the socialist republican way forward.
We organise within communities who know to punch up & not down, our policies are anathema to f/r, & we’re anti-racist to the core

FG otoh carries out the political functions of the FR https://twitter.com/lukeacorkery/status/1319762635236216833
Communities with strong socialist republican tradition that know that the real enemy isn't the immigrant or the unemployed but the gombeen class are immunised against the far right

OTOH, FG fills the void of the far right
- cruel direct provision designed to deter asylum seekers
- attacking the unemployed, who are the victims of FG's model economic strategy that makes employment insecure and low wage so as to be "flexible", and then scapegoating them in every election "welfare cheats cheat us all".
- FG local cllrs explicitly run on anti Traveler ticket.
- Fine Gael is the political force for suppressing any social movement that might threaten its class interests; it leads the way in suppressing and containing trade unions through the worst labour laws in Europe, and cuts funding to NGOs orgs that openly criticise its policies.
- Fine Gael's MEPs sit with the actual rising fascist movements threatening democracy in Europe today. Fine Gael staffers work for actual Viktor Organ in the Europeaj Parliament.
- Fine Gael MEPs voted with these facsists to let refugees drown in the Mediterranean
- Yesterday, Fine Gael did it's bit to defend the woman-hating Church-run tyranny it made this state into for the best part of a century by voting to seal the records on Mother and Baby homes for 2 decades, in the hope that those who suffered as children will die in the meantime
- Fine Gael hasn't moved far from its fascist Blueshirt origins. Justin Barrett of the National Party and Lucinda Creighton of Renua both started off their political careers in Fine Gael. The leader of YFG, Killian Foley-Walsh, represented the party at a far right rally in the US
- Incidentally, here's young master Foley-Walsh's thoughts on the victims of the Oslo and Utøya island massacre. Turns out it was the young socialist teenagers' own fault that they were murdered by his fascist comrades.
- not once has anyone from Fine Gael or YFG ever become involved in anti-racist and anti-fascist organising. In fact, we can very safely say that if forced to take a position, they'd side with the racists and the fascists.
- and then there's little Jimmy O'Leary, who apparently still has a hard time keeping his right arm by his side
