I see you @cazbinny I read your words (thanks to @YouTube Auto captions that picked up quite correctly your words). The deaf community have been ignored for years, a MH crisis for years, and this is why I had to set a specialised service to offer accessible affordable 1-1 deaf 1/ https://twitter.com/cazbinny/status/1319566611171446784
therapy services to the NHS & Clients. I wanted to give deaf therapists the opportunity to get employment and CPD training. There are only a dozen plus deaf therapists in the UK but this number will hopefully increase in years to come.
There are a few deaf trainees who struggle to get placements. There are far & few opportunities to gain access to employment working in the NHS. Also, we have so many deaf people waiting for treatment, in some areas they refuse to allow direct 1-1 deaf therapy but allow only
interpreted therapy. So there’s no choice given.
Even if waiting for interpreted therapy, there’s a long waiting list especially now with Covid making it difficult to allow interpreters in the rooms. Where do these deaf people go? They are waiting, some for years and years
until they just give up.
So @cazbinny I feel your pain & utter desperation at the way right now. Therapy should be made accessible to all. Thanks for speaking out as your voice enables me to speak out & share to #TherapistsConnect too.
