I'm hyped for the Miles Morales PS4/PS5 game, so screw it I'm gonna watch all 7 Spider-Man movies and tweet about them as I go. Let's do it.
SPIDER-MAN (2002)

It's pretty good! I'm definitely of the opinion that these Raimi movies were going for some sort of heightened, melodramatic, comic-booky tone so I think they should be judged on that metric even if they seem corny.
I feel like it captures the vibe of Spider-Man and Peter Parker well. Maguire is legitimately awkward and embarrassing as Parker [which is fitting, so that works] and their intuition for how Spider-Man would fight, choreography-wise, feels so spot on right off the bat.
I dunno what's going on exactly with the color schemes / lighting etc. but these first two movies always have this red/orange/brown/rusty feel to them that I really like? It's better than being overly slick, like MCU.
The over-the-top Dafoe stuff is great, but I feel like the actual Green Goblin stuff is just okay. He has these weird monologues?

Also all of the romance and MJ stuff is pretty weak and condescending IMO but the ending is really great, pretty brave/meaningful way to end it.
SPIDER-MAN 2 (2004)

Probably not a hot take to say this is my favorite of the first trilogy. But depending on how these rewatches go...it might end up my overall favorite of all of them?

Corniness + iffy handling of MJ aside, I love this movie. Probably for the reasons you do.
I love the central plot about balancing the two lives and actually deciding to give one of them up. The burning building reprisal and the train rescue to me are the epitome of the kind of scenes I enjoy in the save-the-day type of superheroes.
I think it's worth noting that I'm SHOCKED at how good the vfx still hold up??? The Doc Ock stuff still looks amazing. The fights look great. I love the frenetic energy of the choreography, even if the style looks "outdated" now.
SPIDER-MAN 3 (2007)

I was really hoping my tweet for this would be "It's not as bad as I remember! It does X, Y, and Z really well!" but unfortunately I still didn't like it.

(although it does have some good snippets!)

I think for 2 main reasons:
1. The three villains were too many for them to weave together. You had to do Harry bc the other 2 films spent a lot of time building to this. So they should've picked either Sandman *OR* Venom, not both.

Venom is a cooler concept but their execution sucked, so...
2. They've milked the will-they-won't-they relationship cups-and-balls shuffling for 3 films and this one does it so painfully. Enough is enough. Especially since the way he treats MJ in this one is almost unforgivably egregious.
And while the ending in general feels rushed and weird, I really like the idea of “forgiveness” as a theme with Sandman. I think in the world of down-to-earth heroes like Spider-Man, there’s an opportunity to sympathize with why people commit crimes because they need money.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2012)

When this first released, I was one of those people who felt that "Andrew Garfield is too cool and handsome to be Peter Parker." But...I think that was an immature reflex.

It's a slightly different adaptation of the character, but, he's good.
He's still nerdy and awkward, he just also happens to be like a sad loner you might make in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater character creator.

Unfortunately the movie spends a lot of screentime on a phase where he is overly vengeful/mean/cocky as Spider-Man, which is a bad vibe.
All the vfx and fight choreography with the Lizard is really cool.

The chemistry and dialogue feels a lot more real and natural, especially with Gwen.

I really like the Uncle Ben, he feels real and three-dimensional.

Lots of little good things.
It's a decent movie but just feels a little less inspirational, emotional, etc. compared to the first trilogy and a little more self-centered, show-off, cool, and about facing off with a mutant villain.

To modern audiences I think these movies feel less "weird" than Raimi's.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (2014)

This is the only one in this thread that I’m watching for the first time ever! Exciting!

And it’s...it’s pretty good? Was the general consensus that people hated this one? I actually might like it more than the other Amazing Spider-Man.
I feel like there is legit chemistry between Peter+Gwen and Peter+Harry that is engaging on screen. Also I like this Harry Osborn, he’s just the right type of entitled, creepy rich kid heir.

The villain cliffhanger stuff is convoluted but basically all these movies did that.
The way that Electro is characterized and we see his origin I feel like is dipping its toes into some sensitive topics (mental health etc.) that the writers aren’t quite handling with the care and consideration that it deserves, which makes it really uncomfortable to watch.
This movie is overall decent imo but it kinda ends on a weird note with that final Rhino scene. It kind of makes it feel like the focus is more on these 1v1 Cool Battles instead of the focus being on saving people, which I think leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
