This thread is horrifying.
To be clear, this is horrible for anyone. No one should be expected to do any of this. You get better treatment in RETAIL. But I want to also point out that when we talk about the things that keep disabled people out of these careers, this is a big one. https://twitter.com/ershitmagnet/status/1319520788895223808
I understand that things can be unpredictable & some days may be unavoidably non-stop, but it’s not necessary for this to just be how it is, there’s a lot of people on Twitter who defend this bc they think that’s how it’s supposed to be.
Some people act like it’s something to be proud of, and when someone says they are physically unable to go w/o eating for 12hrs or they have to drop their gf off at the airport so they can’t be in at 6am a mob descends to tell them how they’re obviously unable to hack it in med.
It’s bad for everyone, but it keeps disabled people out from the beginning and gives abled people an excuse to refuse to try to accommodate them, and I want to make that point bc we’re never going to get over that as long as this is seen as normal/necessary.
I’m not directing this at anyone in this thread, I think they’re all pretty well upset about it, but I have encountered a lot of med Twitter that does not see anything wrong with this, & a lot of people who think it’s just the cost of these careers.
