I’ll add my own voice to this. Though I am happy to see a turn away from a foreign policy that was not working, it is clear that our current approach is equally flawed in new ways.
Confronting China alone while alienating our allies is not sustainable and will result in ruin. Three years in and we are still seeing screw ups at the secretary level that are supremely avoidable with the most basic level of preparation and/or familiarity.
I admit I was apprehensive about Biden’s Asia policy at the beginning. I’m not now.
From what I understand, a Biden presidency is clearly not on track to be Obama 2.0. That’s a good thing. His team understands Asia and has a positive message to carry forward.
