One lifechanger for me over the years has been learning how to be happy for other people when they flourish. It used to be tough because somehow growing up people made me feel that everything is zero sum. Plus the illusion of thinking what we see of others' lives +
is actual. Plus awareness that the world is obviously uneven and 'unfair'. But consciously thinking though this has helped me be free of such thoughts to the extent that I do feel petty and resentful and even envious now and again but am able to recognise those feelings for +
what they are and wait for them to pass knowing they're short-lived and not what I really feel. Learning to watch my thoughts, noticing which of these are aligned to my core values and which are impulses or reactions has been invaluable both to knowing myself and becoming +
(I hope) a better person. These days the tide has turned to such an extent that instead of it sapping energy from me, news of other people's success gives me great joy. (Not talking about people who hurt the world, mind.) Realised when I found myself feeling all buoyant after +
merely scrolling through my TL and seeing how brilliant, vibrant, clear, strong and insightful people are, especially younger friends, even in their confusions. Can't help but wish the absolute best. Hope the world is really kind you all and you make of it a wonderful thing.
