James Shipton is boss of ASIC - the corporate policeman. This story is not getting nearly enough attention given both he and his deputy have been implicated in a corruption scandal
Handy summary in the opening stanzas of @michellegrattan piece in the @ConversationEDU plus more details from @TheNewDailyAu
Who did the due diligence in appointing James Shipton as ASIC Chair? Is this what “merit” looks like?

Coincidentally as @MichaelWestBiz pointed out some time ago, ASIC paid Goldman Sachs $104,000 for “cleaning and janitorial services”

What even are janitorial services 🤷🏻‍♀️
“Because we’re dealing with other people’s money we must never forget financial risks can and often are catastrophic to real people and can at an extreme cause human suffering. After all, it is real money to real people” J Shipton speaking 1st time publicly as ASIC Chair 16/02/18
Here is ASIC Chair James Shipton’s first speech in full. It was, coincidentally, delivered in the week it was revealed foghorn like that 1 in 5 of the country’s richest 2000 companies hadn’t paid corporate tax in at least 3 yrs (for entirely valid reasons)
