People are freaking out about this for a couple reasons. Let’s talk:

1. It says Force healing by energy transfer is a Dyad ability. Which makes people yell “BUT THE SNAKE! BUT THE CHILD & GREEF.” But it does *not* say that the Dyad can only use it on each other.
(Continued) It says “to another” and “is a Dyad ability.” That’s not cut and dry. Maybe this is a power they have because of their shared mystical strength, and they can bestow it as they see fit. But the *RESURRECTION level* of the power is reserved for use on each other.
If you’re going to go deep on this stuff you’ve gotta accept that there’s always going to be some wiggle room. Always. And who knows? Maybe The Child is part of a Dyad and his other half is long gone? Or far away and we just don’t know?
There’s such a huge “gotcha, writers” culture out there. And it’s like, friends...my fellow fans...open your minds to the possibilities. Let a rule be a little flexible. Let a narrator be unreliable. Let the tapestry get filled in.
Right here is a perfect example. This conversation on Force healing. Just based on the wording in this article, I’ve presented a free flowing interpretation of the wording describing the ability. Is that not Star Wars fandom & writing in a nutshell? 🤷🏻‍♂️
And that brings us to #2:

This paths to immortality stuff. First of all, that’s it. That’s it right there. Paths to *immortality.* Ben Solo became an immortal Force being alongside most of his family members, and their Masters before them.
To become one with the Force is a reward. It is a cosmic achievement unlike anything else. They’ve been saying this piece by piece since ‘77. Ben Solo achieves that. So no, his mother isn’t “content with him dying.” Where did that narrative come from? Honestly asking.
Does anyone really think that the character of Leia would just be like “it’s fine that he died,” or that anyone writing her would give her that sentiment? I don’t. But I believe that Leia, an “achieved immortality” status Force wielder, AS WELL as a mom, would prefer this to...
(Continued) ...the path he WAS on previously. Evil fascist leader murderer etc. He left the physical word as a hero. The article says she ferried him to the other side. So I don’t get the abandonment narratives or the “sad ending” narratives. I’m being honest.
This isn’t a normal death. And I don’t think the conversations around his death have been accurately representing what we know it to be in the lore. He became more powerful than we could possibly imagine, just like his namesake.
So no, of course Leia wouldn’t be happy that her son died. But I think she would be pleased that, considering ALL of the events of his life, that he found the path to such a powerful, warm, & rare Jedi fate. WITH her. WITH Luke. WITH Anakin.
She believed. She knew that if she reached out & touched his heart, he would make the right choice. And that’s why she didn’t fully cross over until he finished the work of their family. And that belief, to me, is loving, not cynical. Not an undermining.
Star Wars asks us all to do this and find our own interpretations. And this is just some of my read and feeling. This doesn’t mean I think yours is bad, or that you’re bad, or that you’re not a fan. Or that I hate Reylo or anything like that.
It’s just me saying that it’s a tapestry. A whole piece with many installments. And even your least favorite installment (mine is Phantom Menace if you’re curious), is informed by ALL of the ones around it. Good and bad. And it changes the others in turn.
I can’t look at Ben Solo’s ending without considering everything that the story has taught me about what it means for a Jedi hero to become truly, *completely* luminous.
Also, I just want to emphasize again that I completely understand that this is a very passionate discussion topic. And that many people have immense personal investment & personal hurt in this particular storyline. And I get that, and I hear you, and this is *my* read.
I feel it’s a poetic bow on the Skywalkers. Powerful light & darkness. His acts cement their legacy in my eyes. When the history is written, Skywalkers will ultimately be considered “good,” because of Ben, Leia, & Luke. They made it right & they left a champion in their stead:
The Resurrection on Exegol was the final stamp of light. The yellow saber & the last name (a somewhat titular thing) ARE the torch that’s been passed. It’s a changing of the guard. A final bow. The family shaking off the dark shroud. And that’s largely due to Ben Solo.
(Okay, I *think* I’m done with this thread. 😂 I honestly felt like I ended it, but then I wanted to add final thoughts on the transition of duty, the torch, & the family’s final cosmic score card.)
(The amount of people who seem to think I said that Leia would prefer him dead instead of *alive* is...wow. Not what I said at all. Ever. Immortal in the Force is just better than falling in battle serving evil...which likely would have been his fate had she not reached out.)
