Ideological motives matter. The boog dudes are not causal but they ARE important because of the divergence of their goals from those of the rest of the people on the scene.
The people from the neighborhood didn’t burn the police station because they want the total war: they burned the police station because the cops inside it direct a disproportionate level of violence against their community.
The boog dudes come from outside and they do not care about violence inflicted on the people of Minneapolis by the police except insofar as they think they can use it to immanentize an eschaton.
The boog dudes are also important insofar as they are part of a concerted effort to make everyone believe in an impending civil war. Belief in an impending civil war is not, obviously, the only ingredient necessary to produce an actual civil war but it IS a necessary precursor.
Now everyone who didn't know it all along is going to pretend they knew it all along but they didn't. Alone we told you so.
