I was a dancer. In 2009, I went to India to audition. I was a part of Shiamak Davar’s overseas group. You’ve heard all about the filth in Bollywood and also from Sonu Nigam about singing industry. What if I told you that the dance industry was even worse ? #302B4Election4SSr
I was auditioning for a dance reality show. I quickly realized there was no point of me being there. Most of the contestants were already pre-selected. Basically all the contestants are from show judges own dance academies. So what was I doing there ? Why were we there?
I guess it didn’t matter that I was training in dance from a young age. The good news was that there were a couple of slots for us “outsiders” however in order to obtain that slot we were supposed to audition.... in a different way.
Male or Female it doesn’t matter, I saw in front of my eyes, young people being manipulated and taken into dark rooms to do god knows what. Some of these people were from villages. They were desperate, thankfully I wasn’t.
I called my cousin to come pick me up. While I was waiting, I was sitting in the lobby on the floor and at the same time getting winks and shoulder groping rubs. Thankfully I was taught in school how to recognize and deal with predators.
Reality shows are just another way to exploit people. These kids live in hotels, some of them even go live in the judges homes or their farmhouses. God knows what happens there.
I quickly returned back home and I was scarred for life. This wasn’t the end of my dance career, I will share more stories - but this story was the start of the downhill spiral of my dance career.
What’s worse is people from small villages are forcing their kids into dancing because they know they can go “audition”, get on a reality show and get easy fame.
Dance started from Shivji’s tandav, and today these monsters have turned it into yet another way to trap and manipulate people! I can barely watch these shows anymore without cringing....knowing what the truth is.
Imagine you have a talent and you dedicate your entire childhood and teenage years to grow and further develop that talent.... only to find out that your efforts hold no value unless you’re willing to do the dirty and partake in exploitative activities ?
Clarification - the above story is my own personal story and has nothing to do with Rhea or this parody account.
