my original quote tweet didn’t break down the video at all, here’s a thread : https://twitter.com/zerosum24/status/1319682765235826689
It’s hard to take good screenshots because of how fast it happened. The polices claim was that he was turning around towards the officer to shoot him with his gun. In this screenshot you can see the photo of him with the gun (1/?)
(2/?) about the second the first shot happens, his back is almost completely turned to the officer. It very much seems like him stumbling to stand up after getting the cop off of him, not turning around to him.
If you look at the progression between those two photos, that’s likely him trying to run away, not shoot him. people are going to say the officer only had a split second to decide what to do. The guy did not point his gun at the cop. That officer was pissy he didn’t catch him(3/?
-so he decided to shoot instead
here is a screenshot from a news article describing how it went down. (Ignore the ad)
Officer immediately escalates the situation but holding him at gunpoint. Also note that he tried to walk away before being restrained. If he wanted to kill cops, he would’ve done it then.
and if you’re gonna ask why he reached for his gun : maybe because police have a long history of shooting fucking black men, and he was approached at gunpoint and aggressively detained. This could have ended so differently. Why didn’t he tase him? He wasn’t brandishing the gun-
-at others, so you cannot say him running away put the public at risk. That cop was the one who fired a bullet.
The last thing. Like almost every other police shooting, he was shot multiple times. That was unnecessary. Police are not supposed to shoot to kill, and you if think they should be allowed to, congrats you just defended a police state. #markbender was murdered
